I was in Stellenbosch during the “Woordfees” a couple of weeks back. There was multiple debates at the festival about a so-called “rape culture” at the campus.

And then there was the “slut walk”. Semi-naked, half dressed and flimsy dressed women took the streets of the student town to “re-claim” their freedom and sexuality. The sight of all these half-dressed women is not an offending one. Perhaps the opposite.

However…

When the reasons and motives struck you as a man, you feel ashamed. Not because you are member to a rape culture, but more to be faced with the reality that women really suffer by men’s deeds, their arrogance and their chauvinism.

Imagine for a moment that it was possible again (in this country) for a woman to leave her flat (alone!) and to walk the mile to the night club at 23h00 on a Friday evening. Impossible? I don’t think so, yet a few minds need to be swung prior to that happening. One would expect that all debates at an educational institution of this calibre (S/bosch) will be of high standard, yet there was the normal stupid, low level debates around the dress code of women, how they walk, and their so-called “invitations”. All half educated people know by now that is not the reason for rape and its associated activities such as standing at a men’s hostel and shout nasty comments to passing by female students.

And us real lovers of the female body suffer the consequences. We see less naked women. We see less women dressed in what they really want to wear to the party. We see less lingerie dress codes at “normal” parties.

The day you can look at the nipples, or aereolas, or outer lips, or inner lips, or clitoris (and there is a lot I can add to this list, e.g. the fine hair at the lower back of most women and the skin subtleness of the outer curves of their lower breasts) of a woman without having to “rape” her, or to say something nasty about it (also “rape”), that would be the day to celebrate the man’s maturity and the woman’s freedom.

Do yourself a favour, man, spent time one day to inspect the true beauty of a woman’s inner lips, their folds, their structure, their softness, and get lyrical about the beauty of the female body – like only the French seem to be truly capable of.
