Potchefstroom Bird Park - update

Things have changed there a bit recently. The access into the site is no longer as open as it was. They have put up a pallisade fence at the entrance, with a gate. There is a padlock on the gate, so it looks like the intention is to lock it (at night?), but I did not see it locked before leaving at 18h30... But there is obviously now a risk of being locked in..... Need to find out when they plan to lock it!!..... The hides (there are TWO of them!, not just the one as I had thought!) are being renovated. The covering has been removed, so they are currently just see-through metal frames. But I expect they will again be covered with reeds so as to provide screening and turn them into "hides" again. The first hide is in amongst the poplar trees near the T junction where the "bottom" road (turn to the left after entering at the gate near the Kynoch Kiosk), which passes over the walls of the dams, re-joins the "upper" road. The second hide is further along the "upper" road, about 200 meters further along. There is an additonal "play area" even further along the upper road, where the road ends near a small pedestrian bridge over the river. This is suitable for "in car" play, nice big trees for shade, and a few well-screened spots to park up.
