Nope Soulmates is just something we tell ourselves to justify anything in a relationship, but when it goes sour that quickly changes

I don't think soulmates has anything to do with relationships specifically. If you're lucky one of your soulmates is the gender you like to "do" then you can "do" your soulmate. A soulmate, I believe, is someone who will "get" you instantly, while you "get" them in the same way.

Many definitions of soul mates exists A soul mate or soul mate is like a twin soul, which is thought to be the ultimate soul mate. It is the one and only other half of one's soul, for which every soul should find and join. It is a person with whom one has a feeling of deep and natural affinity, love, intimacy, sexuality, spirituality, and/or compatibility. Most of us will define soul mate as a life partner we're in love with; someone with Whom we're connected spiritually and sexually. This is a romantic view. A person who is perfectly suited to another in temperament, a person who Strongly resembles another in attitudes or beliefs Thus the term soul mate is mythical to me. The best quote that I believe a soul mate to be. A person who makes you be the best of whom you are or you can possibly be,The person... Who forces your soul to grow the most. so that you have a healthy self love and understanding of you as a human being.. Sometimes a Soul mate comes into our lives merely to have an influence on us And then move on. They are temporarily in our lives to help us understand ourselves then move on. But I then have NOT found my soul mate then, I have found a lot of compatible souls to mine. I do not even consider *L* my soul mate, for that we differ to much in beliefs and personality. She is however my ying to my is my stability in life, she anchors me...heck, maybe she is one of my soul mates.

The term "soulmate" is usually expressed in a positive, loving, uplifting context isn't it? What about a negative type "soulmate" ? Is there such a thing? Many people battle through a long, debilitating, depressing, destructive (married?) existence with a suppressive partner, for whatever misguided reason. Would that type of partner also be considered a "soulmate"?

No, I don't think so. The word friend isn't used in a negative context, if you wanted an antonym for soul mate, I suspect it would be soul destroyer. Just coz you call the person that's in a dysfunctional relationship with you, your soulmate, doesn't mean they are. What you're describing, sounds to me like a very dysfunctional co-dependant, or just plain not-good-for-you relationship. Whatever the reasons one has for staying. In a situation like that people tend to make one of three decisions, leave, stay (miserable), or Do something about fixing and redefining the relationship. I recommend the latter, but I doubt you could call a person who you are miserable with a soulmate. Just as I think it would be stretch to call a guy who hurt you or was an arsehole to you, a friend.

Although I love my wife dearly and we do everything together she is not my soulmate In my years I had two, both male, and it had very little to do with sex We were friends that came close to reading each others thoughts and we could have a long conversation without speaking a word

You guys have researched this subject almost completely thus i will just say...for sure, yes! there is something like a soulmate. The one who who knows your thinking and understand completely why you are who you are and what you like and do. If you have met your soulmate, you will instantly know. So, my vote is for "yes"
